THE SIGNS for ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES OF INKRETABLE CRETE & GUNS on CRETE!
strange archaeological sites signs off the beaten track Crete It was find the archaeological sites as these misleading signs along the roads of Crete pointed to disappointment!
If you wish to visit an archaeological site and DONT wish to be disappointed,

Photos Scenic Crete the archaeological sites signposted on Kreta! Mountain goats so curious creatures of Crete teeny Cretan churches, greenhouses stretching as far as the eye can see on the southern coast and a rather surprised looking house!
These two very interesting signs pointing to
Archaeological Sites were situated opposite
each other along the mountain roads of Crete.
Excitedly we decided that we would follow the sign that pointed to the archaeological site that was 3 kilometres along the track!!
We followed the signs as they led us down a very rough track through the olive groves, further signs along the way confimed we were indeed on the right track... this track finally ended up in an olive grove with no further to go. We got out of the car and carried on, on foot. Alas it was a wild goose chase! We never did find these archaeological sites and returned to the main track quite disappointed.
This event was not a 'one off' - many new signs pointing to archaeological sites and other places of interest led to a dead end! Perhaps the archaeological sites themselves hadn't yet been built?!
I had to reverse the car back up the track to get this shot! This sign should read Bitzariano, alas the Greeks use dipthongs for the letter B and put the Greek M and P together that are pronounced as B... someone forgot that the second line here should have been in English! and as you can see (left) the Greek 'B' is pronounced 'V'!
2 little churches hidden in the pine trees of Crete! Agricultural water pipes run along the tracks and a Greek goat keeps a close eye on things!
a tropical hint, a landslide and huge mountainous backdrops along the tracks!
a little surprised house sits at the bottom of a very unusual rock formation, the Cretan mountains go on and on and on!
and the greenhouses along the southern coast of Crete spread out far and wide!
Even this goat found these two signs rather illogical and couldn't see the archaeological site either!
GUNS IN GREECE!
Shotguns for the smaller holes large callibre rifles for the others!
The Greek village of Anoyia is famous as the only village on Crete to withstand the German invasion.
The sign telling you you're in Anoyia is suitably shot with a large callibre rifle!
